I’m reading a book right now “Your Money or your Life” by Vicki Robin and Joe Dominguez. I’m not even to the ‘advice’ part yet so I’m not sure if I’m recommending it but at the moment we are reviewing America’s general perspective on money and I was struck by their definition of enough in relation to money:
” Enough for our survival. Enough comforts, and even enough little ‘luxuries.’ We have everything we need; there’s nothing extra to weigh us down, distract or distress us, nothing we’ve bought on time, have never used and are slaving to pay off. Enough is a fearless place, a trusting place, an honest and self-observant place. It’s appreciating and fully enjoying what money brings into your life and yet never purchasing anything that isn’t needed and wanted.” Pg. 23
Wow. This paragraph really hit me, along with several other points they made. However this one perfectly explains what my goals are with the Shopping Ban and Simplifying. I want Enough, no more, no less. I’m not looking to live with only 100 items, I also know that owning 1,000 items just make more work/stress for me. I want to find that balance between buying only the necessaries and shopping to ‘fulfill the American dream.’ I want to break the stuff=happiness mindset and discover what truly makes me happy. A way of living that isn’t stressful just trying to complete the everyday tasks. I want to challenge ‘normal’ and create my Enough.
