Thoughts on PiYo

Guys I’m serious, this workout series is amazing….My entire workout world changed.

Recently I realized that going to the gym more than once a week (if I was lucky) was going to be impossiable with the girls. Not to metion it was starting to make my membership expensive (since I had an added cost for child care.) So when my friend Laura asked me if I wanted to join her health and fitness accountability group I did. She helped me narrow down which workout would compliment my needs (running) the most and we decided on PiYo.

So what is PiYo?

“PiYo is a low-impact, high-intensity body-transformation program. It uses the most effective Pilates- and yoga-inspired moves set to a fast pace to help you burn fat while you sculpt long, lean muscles. You’ll carve every inch of your body without jumps, without weights, and without straining your joints. And rest assured, there’s no complex choreography to learn. Chalene Johnson takes you step-by-step through the moves where you’ll use your body weight to lose weight and get intensely defined! You get your strength, your cardio, and your flexibility training all in one program.”

From the first workout I knew I was hooked, however it took some time to get the girls used to me working out at home so they wouldn’t be underfoot, litteraly.

After a few weeks of workouts I started to notice results, I started doing modified push-ups then was able to do some unmodified push-ups and by the end I was able to do all of the push-up unmodified. I haven’t been able to run much over the last few weeks but the few miles I did get in I honestly felt stronger, which was crazy since I wasn’t running often.

The workout were exactly as promised ranging from 25-48 min long which made them very do-able on a 6 day a week schedule. I foudn their schedule to be very helpful, the days I tried to switching things around are the days I struggled because I did too similer of a workout 2 days in a row (not how they laid it out.)  I’m not saying you can’t tweek it or intagrated it with your running  or other cardio I’m just saying it helps to know the workouts first.

PiYO is a great complement to any cardio heavy program your already doing, or a wonderful stand alone workout, I love the flexability of it. However just like any workout its all personal opinion, it just may not be your thing and that is fine.

*I am a Independant Beachbody coach that however does not effect this review, if I didn’t like it I would tell you.

  1. I just had a friend recommend this to me as I am thinking about starting yoga after the bulging disc in my back heals. I hadn’t heard of it before, but it’s awesome to see that you’ve been so happy with it! Seems like something I should investigate a little more.
