I wish this was a recap…..You have no idea how bad I wanted to run this race. My legs felt great, I woke up energized and my fuel plan was set (the hardest part of long runs for me while pregnant.)
Then it was delayed….
Then just as we were all lined up and ready to go…CANCELED.
I’ve never had that happen before, granted I’ve only been racing for 3 years but still…I’m so very disappointed. This was going to be my big race year between babies, well that wasn’t meant to be but I had just come to terms with this being my very slow ‘last race before baby’ and then that was taken away too!
On top of that disappointment of not running was something even harder one for me, Mac was going to be at the finish line. 99% of the races I run are on Saturdays….Mac works Saturdays and I’m not going to ask him to take a day off just to watch me cross a finish line. However this one was a Sunday, he was going to come…and then rain, and lightning.
I took a few days to process and during that time I decided to add a 1/2 marathon relay to my calendar. I’m running with a friend and this will be his 1st race ever! Plus its on a holiday (July 4th) so his whole family are going to be at the finish line waiting for him!!!!
Then on Tuesday I got an e-mail from the race organizers with something un-expected. 3 options for me to choose from:
- $20.00 race entry price. This is for any distance (with medal but NO gear) in a 2014 Team Ortho Series Race* or 2015 Minneapolis Marathon, Half, or Relay.
- $20.00 off a 2014 Team Ortho Series race* or 2015 Minneapolis Marathon, Half or Relays (with medal AND gear)
- $20.00 gift card (valid in 2014 for any Team Ortho Race day/Expo Store).
Humm what to do? Do I chance a 5k in late Aug (walking it not running) for only $20 OR do I sign up for next years 1/2 at for $20 off?
Here’s the deal, I’m pretty business minded so I understand why I’m not getting a refund or a free race, honestly I’m pretty impressed with these options.
So days later I”m still disappointed that I didn’t get to complete the 1/2 I won’t lie on top of just wanting that final run I really wanted to say I ran a 1/2 while 6 months pregnant. However I have a replacement set up and I’m SUPER excited for it. Plus I get to choose another run….
