You are what you eat

We have all heard it before, but I’m fully convinced of this sayings truth. So far this week we have eaten out 3 times….yep 3 and its Wednesday. Sunday morning got away from us so we picked up something on the way to Church, Monday night the hubby needed a break (his night to cook) so we went out again. Last night we were both craving ice cream so I ran out to McD and grabbed some. This morning my throat hurt again…coincidence? I don’t think so.
Sugar is one of the biggest culprits in this regard according to WebMD “Eating or drinking too much sugar curbs immune system cells that attack bacteria. This effect lasts for at least a few hours after downing a couple of sugary drinks”
My husband saw proof of this in collage. He was at a friends house and was about to drink a Mountain Dew when his friends Dad caught him. Before he drank the dew the man took a small blood sample (he was a scientist of some sort) and showed him his very active white blood cells under the microscope. Then he drank the dew and repeated the test, all the white blood cells stopped moving….
Interesting right? The same WebMD article talks about eating a variety of fruits and vegetables especially garlic to help boost your immune system. So why do we give our kids ice cream and Popsicles when they are sick? Hummm Sorry Apple 🙁
So this week, I”m going to test it. Along with my oils for a gunky throat, I”m going to cut processed sugar from my diet. I want to see how I feel after a week. Anyone want to join me?
