Exercise is one of the best things I can do for myself personally, it helps me both physically and mentally. However there are times when it’s just better if I stop. I’ve talked before about when exercise itself becomes the stressor, but today I’m talking about those times you just need to stop all together and take a break.
Just this week I’ve decided to stop ‘exercising’ and let the everyday stuff I do replace it. Cooking, cleaning that kind of stuff. Personally I’ve stopped for the two reasons below however there are a few other good reasons to not exercise and I’ll talk about those in a later post.
When it could cause injury-
This is one of the reasons I’ve decided to stop formally exercising till after the baby is here. Last week I ran, and it felt GREAT. I had no pain at all while running, however the 2 days that followed were rough on my hips, which made work a little tough. There are times in your life your just weaker and stressing your body out more may harm it. I’m not talking about when you have a minor cold, there are studies that show low level workouts actually will help that I’m talking about things like the end of pregnancy, going through treatments for various illnesses, the flu, major illness. This is a time to take care of your body other ways like making sure your eating healthy.
When other things are truly more important-
Right now there are just things I need to do that are more important than work out. Right now my energy is limited and I have to decided between getting something ready for the baby or cooking dinner vs working out I need to choose prepping or cooking.
