Green your Drink: Giveaway from Soda Stream

~*~The Giveaway is Closed~*~

(Please excuse the lack of pictures I took a bunch and had fun doing it but this post was just long enough without them)

To be very honest, I’m not sure where to start I’m still in shock that the people from Soda Stream agreed to team up with me…

The pop battle in my house has been going from day one. Its not healthy for you, its expensive and well honestly I drink maybe 5-15 a year that’s it (currently more while testing this.) I just don’t see the point. But I understand that not everyone has the same convictions as I do. So how do you find a place in the middle that keeps everyone happy? Well for this specific dilemma the Soda Steam did just that.

Ok so lets cover the basics first what is a Soda Stream?

Well its a machine that lets you make pop at home! From their Web Site:

Making carbonated water and soft drinks is simple! Turn tap water into sparkling water in under 30 seconds, with no clean-up. Enjoy the freshness and convenience of homemade soda and protect the environment at the same time. No heavy bottles to carry, store at home or throw away. Fizz to your taste and add the flavor of your choice to make your favorite drink. Simple to clean and reuse. With a variety of colors and silhouettes, you’ll be sure to find a soda maker to match with any decor.

So I read that and was intrigued especially when I saw the environmental and health benefits.

Since this is mostly a green blog lets talk about environmental first.

According to the US Recycling Institute, more than 80% of bottles in the US do not get recycled and end up in landfills. Also, an estimated 4.7 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions were produced in the process of replacing the 134 billion bottles and cans not recycled in 2005.

Recycled is good but like I said at the beginning of the beginning of my Reduce Challenge Reduce is better. This machine does that! You use the same 1 liter bottles over and over instead of multiple aluminum cans or 2 liter bottles plus the flavors are concentrated so a small bottle (that is recyclable) makes 12 liters of pop. Not to mention they have a return program for the CO2 tanks that not only reduces your cost but the impact to the environment because they are also reused!

Ok on to heath, this soda is made with NO high fructose corn syrup! This was one of my major objections to pop so problem solved. The other problem with pop is the amount of sugar in it, or in the case of diet pop aspartame well not with Soda Stream, all Soda Stream regular soda mix uses a mixture of Splenda® and sugar. Diet flavors are sugar-free,  sweetened with Splenda® brand sweetener. I know the jury is still out on Splenda but so far we know it to be quite a bit safer than aspartame. For more about their nutrition info see their web page.

So now we get down to the heart of the matter the review:

Its great! The setup was beyond easy and the packaging was minimal. You really can make pop in 30 seconds as long as you think ahead a little. *Hint* We keep the 1 liter bottles filled and in the fridge so that when we decide we want pop or flavored water its already chilled. We were skeptical about the flavor but according to hubby (who drinks more ‘real’ pop so he would know) it tastes just the same if not better! Here are some of the reasons we will keep using Soda Stream:

  • Making it 1 liter at a time, means it won’t go flat and we don’t feel the need to finish off the 2 liter before it does.
  • You can make whatever flavor you want for guests as long as you have the flavoring on hand. (buy the sample pack so you have a variety)
  • Flavored water without all the silly additives and wasted plastic!
  • NO High fructose corn syrup and less sugar
  • Ease and accessibility
  • Soda Streams is pretty easy to use, love that its not super sugary like regular soda with that in mind it has less calories as well. For myself, I like all the flavors even the diet ones. ~Mac my Husband

Here is the great part Soda Steam is giving one away! Plus for those that don’t win they are giving you $20.00 off with this code:LOVEGREEN, through 9/30/10

Personally I would suggest getting the Fountain Jet Soda Value Kit, then you start out with 4 1-liter bottles instead of 2 and you get 2 carbonators instead of 1 that way your not needing to order another one right away for ease of exchange. Plus you get 5 full sized flavors and the 12 flavor variety pack!

Here is how to enter, you must leave a SEPARATE comment for each entry if you post one comment for all of these questions it will only count as 1 entry. ~*~ Open to USA Residents only, sorry.~*~

  1. We do not eat out and I could not get the calculator to work but I know I spend approx $20 a week on soda ouch that’s $1040 a year.

  2. About $2 a day, that makes $14 a week = $56 a month by 12 months = $672 a yr.
wasted on pop for just me.

  3. Spending $780 a year on pop!! Crazy to think I could possibly spend $24000 in the next 30 years on soda! Time to get a sodastream! 🙂

  4. $52 per year, but I doubt that is right because I don’t eat out often and don’t buy soda so so often. But i’d love this.. much better than reg. soda. 😀

  5. I think I would save about $100.oo a year. I don’t buy soda very often b/c it isn;t so great for you..however I feel like this would a much healthier option and the flavor selection is great!
